About Manitoba Maple Burl

Manitoba Maple Burl, also known as box elder or Ash-leaved Maple is commonly found in North America. Its 3D grain structure yields for a look that is truly unique. In its natural state Manitoba Maple Burl is softer, weaker, and lighter than almost all other species of maple. Therefore stabilizing it allows this spectacular stock to be adequate to become a great candidate where hard wood is necessary. The process of stabilizing wood entails the removal of the existing natural resins and air, then introducing an acrylic resin into the wood. This process gives the stock a better durability and the option to apply color, otherwise not found in nature to the stock. In this case a green dye was used!
